You are being asked to participate in a research study. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that effect a voters’ intention to vote/use election information systems. Your participation in this study is voluntary and there is no penalty for choosing not to participate in this study and your relationship with the researchers will not be affected. You may choose to withdraw from the study at any time without consequences.
Your participation in this study will take approximately 15-30 minutes. Your participation in this study will involve answering a series of questions relating to several factors identified as potential factors that influence voters’ intention to vote. Some of these factors include the belief that voting is a civic duty, social media and news source influence, and trust in the election information systems. In addition, you will be asked to answer a set of demographic questions. These questions will allow the researchers to gain a better picture of the factors that influence a voters’ intention to vote.
The only time that your name or other Personally Identifiable Information (PII) will be conducted as a part of this study will be during the informed consent process when providing consent to participating in this study. Upon completing the informed consent form, you will be directed to a demographics form for you to complete. This is done in this matter to ensure all your demographic data cannot be linked to you through the data collected. The responses to the interview questions will not be recorded with any PII in order to keep your responses de-identified.
The potential benefits of participating in this study is include the identification of the factors that effect a voters’ intention to vote. Understanding this information would allow for researchers and election officials to have a better understanding of what steps can be taken to ensure high voter turnout for each election.
